The 1986 World Cup winner lent his experience, and
quick feet, to the Pumas dressing room after Sunday's victory over
Tonga, hours after watching Southampton beat Chelsea
Diego Maradona has been a busy man. He was Radamel Falcao's guest at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, as Southampton beat Chelsea, before travelling to watch Argentina beat Tonga in the Rugby World Cup.
The Pumas scored five tries to dismantle a tenacious Tonga side with a powerful second-half performance to put themselves on the verge of quarter-finals with just one group stage game left to play.
Maradona was the most notable presence at the Leicester City Stadium, and a vocal one too, before heading into the dressing room after the final whistle to celebrate with captain Agustin Creevy & Co.
"He said the whole of Argentina was dreaming with us, behind us and supporting us," Creevy said. "He was here because he wanted to be a part of this. We sung and danced and it was lots of fun.
"It was something different and I could never imagine he would have been there with us. It was a beautiful surprise for all of us.
"For me, Maradona was always the best player in history and it was a very nice surprise to have him visit us. There were videos, he took the nine, 10 and two shirts, he gave us one of his shirts and gave us a speech.
"He said if we reach the semi-final, he will be there. He has set us a very high goal and we hope he will be there again."
