The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in has seized over 61kg of Cannabis Sativa, destroyed 342 tonnes and arrested 75 drug suspects in Ondo State between January and June 2015.
The Ondo State Command of the NDLEA gave the figure while reeling out its achievement in the period under review.
The State Commander of the agency, Mohammed Sokoto, told a gathering in Ondo on Friday in an occasion to mark this year’s United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse, Illicit Cultivation and Trafficking that the anti-drug agency would continue to do its best to bring an end to the activities of drug peddlers.
He commended the State Government for assisting in the efforts aimed at eradicating drug abuse, cultivation and trafficking.
The NDLEA boss also advised those involved in the cultivation of hard drugs to key into the cocoa revolution drive introduced by the State Government.
The resource person at the event and Deputy Director of Pharmaceutical Services at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Olabode Ogunjemiyo, expressed optimism that hard drug abuse, cultivation and trafficking could be eradicated from the country.
He advocated for more awareness on the detrimental effects of hard drugs.
Students, corps members, government officials among others were present at the commemoration, held at the NDLEA state headquarters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, south-west Nigeria
