Liverpool are prepared to meet Christian Benteke’s release clause which is around £32.5million.
The powerful Aston Villa striker netted 12 times in 12 games at the end of the 2014/2015 season, to help keep Tim Sherwood’s team in the Premier League.
Following the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City, manager Brendan Rodgers is ready to dip into the £49m and bring in the Belgium international.
Daniel Sturridge made only 18 appearances for the Reds last term because of injuries and the England striker is out until September. Rodgers is in the market for a cover and Benteke, who still has two years left on his contract at Villa, has emerged as his prime target.
Benteke joined Villa from Genk in 2012 and has scored 49 times in 101 appearances for the Midland club.
