Okocha lobbying to become Oliseh’s Super Eagles assistant

Former captain of Nigeria’s national team, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, is making a last-minute move to become assistant to Sunday Oliseh, who will be unveiled as new head coach of the Super Eagles this week.
NFF president, Amaju Pinnick met with Oliseh last week in London and has sealed a deal for the ex Juventus and Borussia Dortmund man, to replace Stephen Keshi.
He is expected to come in with Jean Francois Losciuto, a Belgian who also holds a UEFA license and was his assistant during his time coaching RCS Verviers. But Okocha has got through to several top NFF officials, in a bid to be considered for the role of an assistant coach.
An official told AfricanFootball.com that: “Okocha reached out to some top officials to propose himself as assistant coach to Oliseh.
“But two things are working against him – first, he does not have any coaching papers and secondly, he and Oliseh do not see eye-to-eye since ‘Jay Jay’ replaced Oliseh as Eagles skipper to the 2002 World Cup.
“Many still believe Okocha stabbed Oliseh in the back by doing so and that Oliseh has not forgotten or forgiven.”
Okocha is currently chairman of Delta Football Association, as well as the chairman of the NFF Study Group..
