The dreaded sect, Boko Haram on Saturday took over the highway linking
Maiduguri and Damaturu, capitals of Borno and Yobe states, the spokesman
of youth vigilante group, Barrister Ibrahim Gunda, told our
correspondent on phone.
Gunda said: "I cannot tell you the casualty just yet but there was
attack on Gunda, a town on Maiduguri/Damaturu highway early today
(Saturday)."
Details was however gathered from a commercial driver that frequently
travel on that highway, Abubakar Idris who said that travellers were
asked by the military to return back to Maiduguri as they moved to
confront the terrorists who they said have taken over the road between
Benisheik (a town 85km away from Maiduguri) and Ngamdu (35km away from
Damaturu).
Idris said many of the motorists had to wait at a distance though as the soldiers pushed the insurgents back from the highway.
A member of the youth vigilante group, who spoke anonymously to our
correspondent revealed that ten persons were killed by the insurgents at
Ngamdu village.
