A mum scaled a 40ft cliff to save her nine-year-old son – only to get stuck herself.
Kate Ormsby, 39, and Sam were trapped for two and a half hours on Westcombe Beach in Devon.
The West Yorkshire mum ran after her son when she saw him stranded on an incredibly steep rock.
She explained: ‘My mum and daughter went around the corner and heard Sam shouting “help”. They looked around and couldn’t see him anywhere, but they then saw him right on this ledge.
‘Looking back it was a crazy thing to do, there was a big overhang near the top and I got most of the way up and then got stuck.
‘I felt I had made a mistake to try to reach him but you don’t stop to think. Sam couldn’t have managed that on his own for two and a half hours.’
The pair were eventually rescued when a coastguard was alerted.
A helicopter swooped in and all was well.
