Former governor of Bayelsa State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timipre Sylva, yesterday said he was not sure if he will contest the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
He, however, vowed to join forces with some leaders of the state to wrest power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) currently controlling the state.
Addressing journalists shortly after he led a delegation of some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders from the state to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the former governor claimed that APC was in a good shape to defeat Governor Seriake Dickson of the PDP in the governorship contest.
He dismissed insinuation that APC in the state had been factionalised, saying the people he described as ‘miscreants’ engineered the reported division.
On the forthcoming governorship election, he said: “I don’t know yet, that is the honest answer. I don’t know yet. My role is to make sure APC wins the governorship in Bayelsa State, that is my role. The APC is going to win; we are very sure about that.”
On the infighting in the party’s state chapter, he said: “There is no division at all, it is just some miscreants sponsored by the present administration that are doing all that. They are people, who are not even members of the party that are making some noise. The party is intact, everybody is intact in the party and we don’t even want to discuss them.”
